Me at the main stadium of Gelora Bung Karno on Monday, 27 August 2018, cheering for Indonesian athletes. My life in the past two weeks turns upside down thanks to Asian Games 2018. In case you haven’t heard anything about Asian Games 2018, my country, Indonesia, once again hosts the world’s second largest sporting competition after 56 years. This year’s event takes place in two cities, Jakarta and Palembang.
I myself reside in Jakarta.Alhamdulillah (praise to God) that I have time to get involved in all the excitements during the festivity thanks to my freelancing job. I can’t imagine if I work at office from 9 to 5, I wouldn’t be able to follow all news let alone watching my favorite sporting events.I can tell you that long before I know classic novels and devote much of my time for reading, I am a huge sport fan. I learn about nationalism from sport, especially badminton. I even wish I were a badminton player back then. So, whenever there are any sport competitions held in Jakarta, particularly global ones, I am so thrilled.
I am so excited with the 2011 SEA Games, now Asian Games 2018. I couldn’t be happier! Indonesians are very fond of badminton, probably second most favorite sport after footballI start and end the days within the two weeks by catching up news on Asian Games 2018. I check the news on daily events involving Indonesian athletes and I head on to purchase tickets if still available.I am a little bit sad because I am only able to watch four events; 1 badminton (my most favorite match), 2 athletics and 1 baseball match. I am mistaken about Indonesians’ enthusiasms. I thought people wouldn’t care coming to the stadium by paying much money.
But I am so wrong, very wrong. Tickets are sold very fast, especially favorite sporting events (my favorites as well), which are football, badminton, basketball and volley ball.So I manage to buy one badminton ticket only, the second round of preliminary session of individual badminton. At far distance, I am joyful to witness the performance of local badminton player, Liliyana Natsir or Butet, probably for her last time. She and her partner, Tontowi Ahmad or Owi, are 2016 Olympic gold medalists.
They eventually lose at the tournament but never mind though because I catch their playing at that session. Asian Games Super Store with super queue. I can’t enter the store because you know, the very long line as you can see from the pictI purchase two tickets for athletic games during the Asian Games 2018 as this is “the mother of all sports”.
This is the sport at which I can witness new records, open my mouth wide open every time I see athletes jumping at the highest surpassing the pole. And of course, my adrenaline runs quickly every time running-theme events take place. The best moment of all is shouting the loudest while jumping off the bench when the fourth runner of the Indonesia’s 4 x 100 m men relay is approaching the last few meters of the race. I won’t ever forget the moment that lasts for only a few seconds because it has been a very long time I didn’t experience that. The four runners eventually snatch silver medal. I am so, so blessed to be there at the moment, cheering for them at the stadium. That’s the wonderful part of becoming a supporter for the host team.
As a spectator and sport fan in general, I am amazed by my fellow citizens who are enthusiastic way more than I imagine. If they don’t like sports, they can bring along their friends and families enjoying Asian Fest who offers culinary, music shows and games. Either day or night, Gelora Bung Karno sports complex in the heart of Jakarta is full of visitors. Then, I am so delighted to see a lot of families bringing their kids watching live at the stadium. Then, the children should or clap their hands while saying, “INDONESIA”, “INDONESIA!
I bet that must be their once-in-a-lifetime experience that will leave unforgettable trace in their minds. Who knows one day one of them will be national athlete? Also, it’s a pleasant view to see many employees who go to the stadium to support local athletes along with their office mates after their job is over at that day. For myself, I’d love to head on to the stadium across the city to watch pure entertainment called sports.
Sport mixed with entertainment and culinaryTomorrow is the last day of the Asian Games 2018. The much-awaited party is over within some hours from now.
The hard work from the Indonesian government eventually is completed and what they do deserves a massive applause. I can’t imagine how the organizing committee of the event does the mass job for years. Minus poor ticketing system, all parts of the event run very well; security, public facility, venue-related things, service for spectators and participating athletes and officials and many aspects. After months of news about corruption, political rivalry among presidential candidates, deeply stung by the fever of Asian Games 2018 is such relieve and refreshment. Looking at the atmosphere, I am sure that I’m not the only one who feels this way.Best thing is our country bags 31 gold medals, yes! This is way better than just four gold medals we get during the 2014 Asian Games Incheon, South Korea. The achievement also surpasses the targeted gold medals from the government (around 20 gold medals if I’m not mistaken). Gold, silver, bronze or doesn’t belong to top circles doesn’t matter for me.
Because as a sport fan, again, watching world-class sport games here, just a few kilometer from my lodging room, is already a gift, a very great entertainment. I am very, very thankful for all the local athletes, coaches and officials who work super hard to whatever result they get from this event. May your sweat and tear will bring in best results in more events to come. Thank you, thank you very much once again. After his graduation from Edinburgh University, Charles Darnaway visits his uncle living in Aros, Scotland. Deep in his mind, he wants to seek for treasures hidden beneath the Spanish ship, ‘Espirito Santo’, plus proposing his cousin, Mary Ellen, to marry him.His uncle, Gordon Darnaway has been tested by the adversity of life that he becomes stiff, hardly smiles and becomes serious person. From his uncle, Charles knows about the miseries regarding the wave and the sea nearby the place they live.
The story of the Merry Men gets more emphasis for it refers to breakers that roar around rocks and make extensive noise like shrieking laughter. On the day Charles gets to the place, his uncle looks flat. Something about the sea and the past bothers him. Charles tries to persuade Marry to not only marry him but also leaves the house. But Marry can’t leave his father.Charles tries his luck. He goes down the sea, wishing he can find treasures that will enrich him. Much to his surprise, his discoveries are instead graveyard, remains of shipwrecks and human bodies! On the way back home, he spots a group of strangers rowing the boat on sea. While he tells about this to his uncle, Charles is surprised to learn Gordon’s panic.
Gordon realizes the stranger Charles just sees is the marine whom he kills yet he comes back alive.Upon this, Gordon leaves home carrying wine. He gets drunk while standing on the edge of a cliff. His eyes watch the ill-fated boat. Charles and Rorie seek for his whereabouts. They can’t do anything to make Gordon coming back home or help the ship. Not long after that, the Merry Men are back in action.
Wow most fun pve classes. Outlaw rogue (very simple rotation, has become a bit more fun with the correct legendary that opens for more use of shots, do not like the toggle on/off aoe vs single target). Windwalker monk, I guess (haven't tried it alot, seems a bit too easy to get good dps, mobility is a plus). Enhancement shaman (though fast and good in terms of effects, the current best specc requires that I, at the start of a fight, spend the following gcds to get going: rockbiter, flame tongue, frostbrand, fury of air, earthen spike, feral spirit, and then most likely another rockbiter, and crash lightning if aoe, just to get started with a rotation. Also, squishy) 4. Arms warrior (with decent gear comes procs, making the playstyle faster and more fun than it was in early legion).
“Their laughter” swallows the ship, leaving no remains of it and Charles, Rorie and Gordon can just stand still. After this incident, Gordon looks frightened until Charles learns that his uncle is sinful for murdering the marine man. After Charles utters his disappointment on his uncle wrongdoing, suddenly a black man is visible. Gordon gets even more terrified.
He flees, so does Rorie. While Charles tries to speak to him whose language seems so alien. Charles brings him back home though.Mary and Charles feeds him and provides him a shelter. On the other hand, Gordon still escapes. He doesn’t want to return home as long as the black man is still in the house, so Charles thinks. Rorie brings Gordon meal but the old man doesn’t want to leave his place.
Mary is very sad finding her father behaves like this.Until one day, Charles wishes to let the black man go. When he meets Gordon, the latter runs away then is chased by the black man.
Gordon is unstoppable. He thinks the black man is the ghost of the marine man whom he murders before. They chase one after another until they jump off the cliff then the Merry Men engulf them all.The picture is taken from. I don’t know how many months I was absent from this blog, probably about three months. The event that marked the beginning of the absence was the Champions League finals between Juventus and Barcelona in May. The Spanish club defeated Juventus 3-1. Can’t tell you how emotional that loss was for me.
Not only because the fact that Juve was playing in the same stadium in Berlin, where which the Italian national team won the 2006 World Cup but also because my high expectation. Then, there was Alessandro Del Piero who was especially present for his former team. And personally, I really wished Juve beat Barca because I hate media and football fans considering Lionel Messi as the best one ever in the planet. I really hated that. I hope Juve never ever buys the player despite his personal achievements. Thankfully, he never wins a prestigious trophy with the Argentine national team.
I was so happy watching him crying in front of the camera after the defeats in the finals of the 2014 World Cup and the 2015 Copa America. Those have proven that football is about 11 players not just one Lionel Messi!!!The saddest of all was not about the defeat actually. Juve was the underdog team, his squad was much cheaper than that of Barca. It was about Andrea Pirlo instead. It wasn’t about how he cried after the match but more on the fact that the rumour about him joining New York City was coming out again and this time around was stronger than before. This rumour made me anxious for some weeks. I frequently checked Twitter to find about the rumours.
Initially, I did not seriously digest the news as media usually blows things up, some even without any confirmations at all.In regards with Pirlo, things were at first just rumours. No confirmations from either the player, the would-be club he was going to join in, or from Juventus.
I felt calm for several weeks despite the facts that Pirlo was indeed in New York to watch a baseball game. The few weeks passed there came a series of gloomy news shuttering the hearts of so many Juventini. The first one was the departure of Carlitos Tevez, the successor of the magical number 10 jersey belonging to former Juventus captain, Alessandro Del Piero. Tevez made up his mind of returning to his former club, Boca Juniors.
His reason was very personal; he wanted to get close to his family in Argentina. While my heart was already breaking because of that I completely understood his decision. Family is the thing that should be in your heart after all. Anyway, I’d like to extend gratitude for Tevez after just two amazing seasons.
He was such a hard worker while with Juve. He scored goals almost each time he was on the field. His dedication, professionalism, and his work ethic were unquestionably. I wish him best of luck with Boca. The first shake was done then the second one, the much-stressful one eventually emerged: Andrea Pirlo heads to New York!!!! That was the second most devastating news after Ale left Juventus back in 2012. That was even more saddening than the departure of Antonio Conte in 2014. My heart was completely broken for Pirlo was my third most favorite football player of all time after Ale and Gianluigi Buffon.I am speechless to describe how loss that I have to encounter due to Pirlo’s departure.
Ale is for me the best in terms of professionalism, loyalty, work ethic. Gigi is best for his leadership, consistency as a champion.
While Pirlo is applauded for his brain, his distinctive freekicks, his game plan. He is such an artist He is a very rare player in today’s football industry.I miss his way of plotting balls, planning which ball he is going to pass, right or left. I will definitely miss the way he takes dead balls in the black-and-white jersey. Even until the time I am writing this piece of story, I miss him playing for Juventus a lot. It has been the second week of the 2015/2016 season, Juve had lost two matches that makes me missing him even more.Somehow my love to Juve is above all else.
Gradually, I am moving on from Pirlo though not yet 100%. Juve’s start of the campaign is poor so I must put more focus on that.So that’s about Pirlo. Other news that kept me out from blogging was the reunion with all my senior high school friends after about 13 years of being apart. This happened so unpredictable. Usually, I only met those who were close to I when we were at the school.
Three people were the highest amount. But now we just held our much-awaited reunion at the school after the Eid Al-Fitr last July. I was one of the organizing event members. The past four months were so crowded.
My closed, introverted life suddenly has become so loud with the high number of chats via WhatsApp group. I talk a lot, too, which sometimes makes me feel so bitchy. So, it’s the friends that have taken out so much energy in the past few months.
On one side, I think I deserve to have done that because it was so nice to get in touch with those who played a good part of my life. Each time I feel that we can still share good laughs and stories like we did when we were teenagers despite the 13 years of cutting off, I feel so amazed. I am happy to have them back in my life again. We chat a lot, every day, about silly things most of which are about food.
Sometimes, we talk about serious topics, sometimes gossiping around, calling things that occur in the past. I, and my friends residing around the capital, have held two rendezvous. It’s so awesome that I can still feel normal, not awkward, with them all, especially with those living around Jakarta, after so many years.Oh. In between those stories, my boss gave me additional jobs twice that forced me to work overtime. That was another factor leading to my hiatus for this blog.
But now, I try to get back at my ‘world’. This blog is where my heart will forever belong to. And also JUVENTUS. I will attempt so hard to write things that have filled up my mind. I have to take them out before I go crazy.Of course, it’s impossible to write all the things that happened in this piece.
I sum them all only. But now I come back. I read ‘Agnes Grey’ and I subscribe Orange TV to watch Juventus. Man, life is good! So happy to get back at this road!!!.drum rolling. I have written quite a lot of things about Juventus, Alessandro Del Piero and Italian national team but none about Indonesian football has been in the blog.
And truth to be told, I am ashamed with myself. Despite the poor performance of the local football, I should have stood by them. I hope this small post can show how much I want the national football team to soar and record more achievements as what we have done in the past.In the past three years, Indonesia has been, I may call it, as a football fan powerhouse.
The huge number of football fans here has drawn some big football clubs from Europe to drop by in the country to greet their loyalists, including I.In 2013, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea FC have visited the country within three weeks. I watch Arsenal and Chelsea here in the Gelora Bung Karno main stadium for the first time. Although I am the clubs’ fan, watching the world class players playing in front of my very eyes is truly a pricey entertainment.
I really love seeing the clubs’ fans, or I call them as my fellow football addicts, celebrating their days.A year on, it’s time for all Juventini, including I of course, have our own kind of Juventus national day. I lost for words to describe how grateful I am for the very rare experience in my life. I bet thousands of Juventini in the country feel the same way. For your information, Juventini in the country ranks second after the club’s native, Italy, in terms of the number of fans or specifically called as Juventini.During the period, too, there has been several pay TV that puts European football leagues as their top selling product. The most-sought is definitely the Premier League given its attractive competition, some say so. Some of the pay TV are Nextmedia, OrangeTV and TransVision. Not only that.
Some of the local’s brands have been the major sponsors of the European clubs. For instance, the national flag carrier, PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk, for Liverpool FC. Then, PT Bank Danamon Indonesia, Tbk, which has been in commercial affiliations with the Manchester United. The latest one is gadget firm Advan that has teamed up with Barcelona to grab the club’s fans to become its buyers.Unfortunately, despite the growing enthusiam for foreign clubs, the country’s football achievement has been dragging down. One of the reasons is the mismanagement of its football association or Persatuan Sepakbola Indonesia/PSSI.Last week, the Minister of Youth and Sport Affairs Imam Nahrawi shocked the country by issuing a ministry decree that suspends the PSSI.
It, thereby, does not acknowledge all of the association’s activities. What makes this looks like a thunder in the middle of the sunny day is that it is published a day before the association’s extraordinary congress has concluded La Nyalla Mattalitti as the chairman of the association replacing Djohar Arifin. The decree that suspends the association from carrying out any activities has been triggered by the association’s decision to have kept allowing Arema Cronus and Persebaya playing in the QNB League, opposing the ministry’s recommendation.
Three warning letters have been sent yet left ignored by the association. The two clubs are prohibited by the Indonesia Professional Sport Board because of technical and legal reasons. While the suspension has ignited disappointment from the current chairman along with newly-selected board, local supporters couldn’t be happier. They say this decision has been much-awaited. They expect the ministry’s planned transition team will bring a new era for the PSSI. They want old regime, which is allegedly connected with a political party and has failed to lift up the achievement of the national team, be scrapped. The supporters say they want the ministry to completely clean up the association from people who take advantages (money) from the association for the sake of their own. Despite the fact the decree does not resolve the most basic problems, even makes the already existing problems much more complicated, they say the ministry decision is still preferable.
At least, they say, this will take the alleged irresponsible persons out of the association. And I, as one of the supporters, have the same saying. It’s nothing wrong at all to have it all started again with brand new people in charge than leave the matter to the wrong people.
Cita Citaku Adalah
While in the past I choose to stay silent and keep my eyes out of the matter this time around I choose to make a stance. And that is by keeping my eyes close at the development of the matter. I’d love to see the national team to win again, being a king in the Southeast Asia as we once were. I think my hopes are not impossible.
The victory of young men’s doubles Angga Pratama/Ricky Karanda in the final of OUE Singapore Open 2015 last week relieves me so much. Not only because I follow their journeys since the early round of the tournament but also because their accomplishment proves Indonesia’s years-long development programs have eventually been fruitful. In the final, Angga/Ricky defeat Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan with 21-15, 11-21, 21-14. Prior to the last game of the championship, the pair shock badminton lovers, including I, as they topple world’s number one Lee Young Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong from South Korea.Indonesia does have Hendra Setiawan/M.Ahsan as its number one men’s double pair who just wins the Maybank Malaysia Open Super Series Premier 2015 a few days prior to the event held in Singapore. When the leading pair loses to Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan in Singapore my feeling is mixed. On one point, I am definitely sad because of their defeat yet on the other hand I hope the junior one wins the game and they finally do that. The pair plays so tactically, relying on quick shots to snatch the trophy in the division.
In the first game, they wrap up it quickly yet lose the second game to 11-21. Fortunately, they win back the third game with 21-14, making all Indonesia’s badminton mania so happy. They have more reasons to feel so. Not many younger badminton players have shone their brightest in high level badminton tournament, such as super series events or super series premier ones.
Over the past three years, Indonesia have heavily relied on senior players — Hendra/Ahsan and mixed doubles’ pair Tontowi Ahmad/Lilyana Natsir. They do win All England super series premier and are crowned as world champions yet the fact that there have not been any of their juniors who have consistently won major badminton tournament leaves us with a big anxiety. In the mixed doubles, not much has been written in the champion wall by young players Praveen Jordan/Debby Susanto. You can say the similiar thing goes for other young names in other divisions, such as Bellaetrix Manuputty and Lindaweni Fanetri in the women singles, Tommy Sugiarto and Hayom Rumbaka in men singles and Pia Zebadiah/Rizki Amelia Pradipta and Nitya Krishinda Maheswari/Greysia Polii in women doubles. Nitya/Greysia stands out a bit from the list thanks to the gold medal they contribute to the Indonesian squad during last year Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. While Tommy wins in the 2013 Li Ning Singapore Open Super Series. While other countries, excluding China, are racing so fast. Ratchanok Intanon from Thailand steals the show in the 2013 World Championships after beating Li Xuerui from China in the final.
India has reemerged in the badminton world with the presence of Saina Nehwal. Now, women singles witness the power of Spaniard Carolina Marin who defeats Li Xuerui in the final of Maybank Malaysia Open Super Series Premier 2015. Thailand, Spain and India are not traditionally known as the badminton countries not only because of the low popularity of badminton but also they don’t produce many champions in the past. Now, new history starts rolling on their directions. In the men singles, while China remains in the top with the dominance of Chen Long and definitely Lin Dan, the presence of new winners, such as Kento Momota from Japan who wins the men’s single in Singapore and Srikanth Kidambi who wins the 2014 China Open Super Series Premier after surpassing Lin Dan in the final match. With the rises of new faces from the countries where badminton is not the most favorite game, Indonesia has been left behind.
But nothing is impossible to catch the rivals, runs as faster as possible. With the triumph of Angga/Ryan the long regeneration program held by the Indonesia Badminton Association/PBSI starts reaping what it sows.
Having been a football fan for about 17 years with Juventus FC as the years-long beloved football club, these rhetorical questions, moments underscore what life means for a football enthusiast, Juventini in particular:1. This question have popped up in my mind, a lot of time: did my mother wish me as an athlete when I was inside her womb?2. My father has introduced me to football but neither he nor my male relatives play the game yet I like playing football, sometimes. Am the weirdest one in the family?3. When most of my girl friends adore Francesco Totti but I still have the heart for Alessandro Del Piero, is there something wrong with my choice?4. When my friend says the reason I leave her house is for watching a football game held nearby the village where we live but I deny her statement, I then ask for myself: why should I lie to her?5.
I feel so alive whenever I and my schoolmates, most of whom are men, gather in the schoolroom, talking about the matches before Monday morning ceremony begins at SMUN 1 Karanganyar. I feel superior, too, because Juve is dominant during the late 1990s and early 2000s.6. When I and my friends ride our cycles to the city just to buy magazines, posters that sell Juventus pictures. One of the most memorable moments that later embarrasses me each time I look back at is when I cry after Italy loses to South Korea in the 2002 World Cup. I keep cursing the referee who I strongly believe has helped the host in the game.8. After more than 10 years of not meeting each other, my former classmates says she remembers me most because of my distress when Juventus loses to Lazio in the 1999-2000 Serie A title competition in the last game marked with flooded pitch. Should I be proud or embarrassed with myself because of that?9.
The first time I officially ‘show up’ as a Juventini is when I join in the mass watching held by the Juventus Club Indonesia to watch the last ever performance by Ale for Juve in the 2011/2012 Italian Cup final. My feelings are completely mixed up. Initially, I am frightened because I go there by myself in the dead of the night. Then, I feel so weird when some male Juventini stare at me probably they think I am lost or something like that. But once the game is on, I get so excited to have watched him playing although Juve is defeated.
I go home feeling somehow joyful.10. You can say my weirdness, bravery comes to its climax when I go crazy on my own during the 3-days Juve Tour last August.
I go to the airport by myself. In the sea of Juventini, most of whom are men, I don’t give any damn at all. I visit their closed training sessions with blooming heart and again, I don’t care with what other Juventini say about me going there solo.11. The most insane moment of all is when I am inside the Gelora Bung Karno stadium complex, singing ‘Storia Di Un Grande Amore’ so loud till the male Juventini standing beside me look annoyed, shouting the name of ‘Fernando Llorente’ each time he scores, jumping then having some narcissistic pictures taken. What a party! A much-anticipated one!12. I can still feel goosebumps in my hand each time I pass the Gelora Bung Karno stadium complex because of the Juve tour.13.
Thanks to internet, I have some good Juventini fellows with whom we exchange a lot of information, thoughts, curses, etc, although, yes, via virtual world.14. I can be so lunatic only by reading through Twitter timeline filled with the outrage of some Juventini when the club plays poorly or is beaten during a live game.15. My much-awaited time are at 02:45 a.m each Wednesday/Thursday or 01:45/02:45 a/m every Sunday/Monday morning or 9 p.m each Sunday Jakarta time.I’ll update the list after I get new defining moments. For the time being, I’ll leave you with those.
Syarat Buka Tabungan Cita Citaku Danamon
Aku berdecak kagum betapa cintaku semasa kecil benar-benar menjadi nyata.
