Just thought I would share that I recently won a Tacx flow turbo trainer and the VR upgradeEntered a free prize draw at the recent Newport Nocturne bike race and thank you to the good people at Brenin Bikes in Market Drayton I now have a fantastic turbo trainer for winter just as i was looking to buy one! So Chuffed!Only ever used a cheap turbo before and the flow is fantastic, very happy with it and its control panel/ display unit. However my experience with the software has left me frustrated and glad I didn't pay for it.
It will not activate online using the serial number in the cd case, it will not download the updates from tacx, part downloads and then goes to not responding status. Did get the software to work briefly by using the email activation method but now has gone back to light version so cant train with it. Waiting for tacx to send me an activation number. When the software was working it was slow, jerky and my virtual self kept going into barriers. It might be down to my computer, but it is only two years old so i would think it would be ok. Anyone had any experience with the software?Still a happy bunny tho because it was all free! Hi,Well done on winning your prize.I have been interested in purchasing a Tacx VR trainer myself, but have reservations with some of the comments I read about the software set-up.
It has become apparent that you need a pretty powerful computer, if you look at the Tacx website they specify the minimum and recommended requirements of your PC.This could be worth a read:I live in Newport, and would be very interested in seeing your Tacx system in operation, obviously once you have it up and running properly. Would you consider letting me have a look? Thanks. It may just be my computer is too old. Found that link quite interesting, it obviously a good bit of software if you can get it going however mine is still stuck in light mode so will not let me use it properly and tacx are yet to send me an activation code!

If i ever get it going you are welcome to come try it out, or i may have the VR add on up for sale if you are interested because its driving me mad! I have just been watching youtube cycling clips etc and thats good enough for me while training. I bought an i-Flow VR trainer and have had similar problems with software updates freezing, script error messages, doesn't show routes and HRM not showing the bpm despite being detected during set up. I bought a dedicated desk top PC that easily exceeds the minimum requirements after experiencing problems with my lap top. I'm convinced the issue is Windows 8 although Tacx support claim it works perfectly ok with it.

I'm going to try getting someone to install Windows 7 and remove the awful Windows 8 and see if that works. Failing that I'll be selling the desk top PC and reverting to a Mac with a windows partition. I've had a Tacx genius since the spring, and aside from a hardware fault (rectified swiftly by Wiggle) it's been a great piece of kit. I've not had any major software issues, I've got a decent spec pc and am running windows 7. However, I never update the software until I've checked out the feedback on the tacx forum.
The latest release (4.7 I think) has a major bug that causes the map and gradient to become out of sync. So I'm still on the previous version. I tend to use RLV's mostly, it's the VR that ups the pc spec requirements, so worth bearing in mind your intended use before upgrading your pc.
