(NSFW). So here is my two cents on Duel and Ultimate (note that I also use Revenge of the Enemies AI with both):Duel v7 is a great experience. I played it first for quite a while.

Enemies were definitely smarter in their tactics. I had to be on my toes making sure to block and take advantage of holes in their defense. Initiative is the key principle here.

If you could get the first blows in, you could beat them down before they could recover. But if you hesitated and let them get their strikes in you could get in trouble real quick. Getting ganged up on was real bad news. You needed to use good timing with your blocks and bashes to open holes for your strikes. Smart aggression paid off with this mod.

Ultimate Combat Skyrim Server

If you were too cautious and slow, they create holes in your defense.I switched to Ultimate Combat for my most recent playthrough and I played with it from level 1 to 56. Many of my comments from Duel applied here also, regarding tactics. But in this case, I felt enemies were a just a bit smarter and more challenging to fight. It was a subtle but noticeable difference to me. It is hard to describe the difference.

UC does include a bit of locational damage with head shots and other added features, which I found pretty cool. I found enemies to be noticeably more challenging until I got to the point where I could tank the damage. Even then I could get surprised by a boss created by High Level Enemies.

I would get complacent and then someone would school me on my sloppy technique. However, I also noticed script lag with Ultimate Combat that had never occurred with Duel. In particularly intense fights, staggers and critical strikes seemed to get lost in the fight or the damage would kind of get tracked internally but not show up in enemy counters or my own for a few seconds. It was disconcerting. The worst cases were at teh tail-ends of dragon fights when I had grounded the dragon and moved in for the melee finish.

I could stun the dragon with my power blows (2H Axe) but periodically, that weird lag would occur and I couldn't tell if I was having an effect on him or if he was about to get a stunning blow on me. Then all of a sudden everything caught up and the dragon died.

It was weird but I got used to it.Mid-way through my game I started to run into weird script lag issues with the main quest and I had to turn off Frostfall and Hunterborn so I could finish it. Once I reduced the lag it seemed the combat issues occurred less frequently.Based on gameplay, my preference is Ultimate Combat. I enjoyed its experience a little more than Duel, but if script lag is at all an issue or you already have a number of script-heavy mods installed, then Duel is probably a better choice.EDIT: Ooh, I forgot to mention that I noticed in the later-game that high level NPCs started getting pretty good using various critical strike moves on me and they started dodging my spells and blows quite effectively. Now I suspect this was from Revenge of the Enemies rather than Ultimate Combat, but I am not entirely sure. It was cool to throw a lightning bolt at someone and then see them jump and roll by it, completely avoiding my strike. If you install TK Dodge, Ultimate Combat (and maybe Duel?) will make more enemies dodge your strikes even more effectively.

I have an i5-2600K, 8GB RAM, GTX 770 2GB, and Skyrim is installed on an SSD. I use Mod Organizer, and the mods directory is also on the SSD.I have a pretty heavy mod load, around 280 ESPs with judicious merging of patches to fit in under the 254 ESP limit. That said, I specifically tried to keep my script-oriented mods to a minimum (so I could try to complete the Civil War Overhaul quests-still working on that.) I also run an ENB, though I followed ApolloDown's suggestions for CWO by reducing shadow resolutions, and I disabled DoF to save performance. When I get into the main Civil War sieges, I turn the ENB off completely to save on framerates. The main scripted mods in my setup were Frostfall, Wet and Cold, Hunterborn, Realistic Needs and Diseases, Vilja in Skyrim, Inigo, Ultimate Combat, 3DNPC, Helgen Reborn, Convenient Horses, DCO and CWO.

My setup was quite stable and reliable until I got into the middle of the main quest around level 35. Every time I had to go to the Throat of the World for a quest stage, my scripts just went batty. Sometimes hanging for 20-30 seconds.

They would eventually straighten out, but I finally disabled Frostfall and Hunterborn and that seemed to clear things up for good. From what I understand, it comes down to how much scripting you can spare. Mods like Deadly Combat and Ultimate Combat pack quite a few scripts into the game when those bandits decide to mace your face. Although they may be stable, if you're running say. Ehh a 'few' script based mods, it can cause problems.UC and DC base the combat around skill; dodging, blocking, and flanking take the wheel when it comes to victory.DUEL on the other hand, rewards planning, and while it does have scripts, they're not as intensive as DC and UC.
